We emphasize a "you can do it" mindset. We believe in our students and encourage them to believe in themselves.

We
Build
Character
At Fair Lawn Taekwondo, we believe that building character is just as important as learning martial arts. Character is not just about personality, but also about how we behave and interact with the world. We help our students build character in four ways: by teaching them respect, goals and commitment, focus, and confidence. These values are essential for success both in and out of the dojang (training area).
respect
Taekwondo is built on the foundation of respect. Students are taught to value others by responding with "Yes Sir" and taking care of their own belt to show respect for themselves and their progress. We also emphasize the importance of showing respect to parents and individuals in positions of authority.
goals and commitment
In Taekwondo, setting and achieving goals is crucial for building commitment. Our ultimate goal for every student is to become a black belt, and we help them achieve this by setting smaller, achievable goals. By earning stripes that represent their mastery of skills and techniques, students aim to earn a new belt every three months on average. This approach helps students stay motivated and focused on their journey towards earning their black belt.
focus
Maintaining focus is crucial for students to excel in Taekwondo. Any distraction can lead to mistakes while performing forms or skills. However, the ability to concentrate on the mat can be beneficial in other areas of life, such as school or work. This skill can help students stay dedicated and overcome challenges.
confidence
At Fair Lawn Taekwondo, we understand that many students struggle with confidence when they first start. However, after just a few months of training, we see significant improvements in our students' confidence levels. Our individualized approach ensures that each student receives the attention they need to grow, our emphasis on interaction with peers and public performances helps to build confidence.

Teaching children to show respect to their parents and family members is an important aspect of their upbringing. It is essential that children greet their parents when they enter the house and say good-bye they leave. Honesty, maintaining good relationships with siblings, helping with household chores, keeping their bedroom clean, and maintaining good hygiene habits are all important values that children should learn. Additionally, children should not interrupt adult conversations, study their school work at school and at home, and show respect for their teachers and peers at all times.
Frequently
Asked
Questions
Why we choose not to publish class schedules online
In our martial arts studio, the safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities. To maintain a sense of exclusivity and confidentiality within our close-knit community, we have opted not to publish our class schedule online. This decision fosters a deeper level of trust and camaraderie among our members. Moreover, by keeping the schedule offline, we can customize our classes to better suit the individual needs and preferences of our students, ensuring each session is personalized and rewarding. We appreciate your understanding and support in our efforts to create a secure and inclusive space for everyone who enters our studio.
How are students evaluated for their belt promotions
Belt promotions are done through a structured evaluation process. Students are assessed based on a variety of criteria including their technical skills, knowledge of the art, attitude, and commitment to training, and attendance. At Fair Lawn Taekwondo, students must demonstrate proficiency in specific techniques and forms before they are eligible for a belt promotion. Promotions are a way to recognize and celebrate the progress and dedication of students as they advance in their martial arts journey. It is an exciting and rewarding moment for the student, parent and their instructor, marking a significant milestone in their training. Remember, progress in martial arts is not just about the color of your belt, but the growth and development you achieve along the way.
Why we schedule belt promotions during your child's session
The purpose of conducting belt promotions during the student's martial arts session is to boost their confidence, maintain motivation, set clear objectives, provide a sense of achievement, and foster a supportive training environment. This method enriches the Taekwondo classes, making them more meaningful and interactive.
The atmosphere is always filled with excitement and encouragement as fellow students, instructors, and family members cheer on the advancing student. It's a true celebration of hard work, dedication, and growth.
How to tie your Taekwondo belt
Tying your belt is an essential part of your training, and symbolizes your dedication and respect for the martial art. Not only does it keep your uniform in place, but it can also be a calming ritual to help you focus before practice. Follow our step-by-step guide to master the art of tying your taekwondo belt and embody the principles of discipline, perseverance, and respect.
Remember to wear your uniform and belt to every session. You'll receive a black stripe for attendance and a colored technique (form, kicking, and breaking) stripe for mastering a technique. To ensure your stripes remain intact, please avoid washing your belt.
Do you offer Taekwondo birthday parties
Certainly! Taekwondo-themed birthday parties can be a fantastic way to celebrate a special day with a unique twist. Guests can enjoy learning basic Taekwondo moves, playing fun games related to the martial art, and even break a real wooden board! In addition to the fun and excitement, your child will experience some of the important aspects of the martial arts including an increase in confidence, respect, coordination and fitness. All parties are 1.5 hours and are run by two of our professional staff members.
Are parents allowed to stay and watch their child's training session
Absolutely! While our martial art studio has a drop-off and a pick-up policy, you can always kindly inquire if you can observe your child's martial arts session. We understand that as a parent, you may want to see how your child is progressing and we fully support that.
